Hike Into History: Ilium

$10 – $20Hike Into History with Telluride Historical Museum’s Executive Director Kiernan Lannon. This 2-3 hour hike will journey through the Ilium Valley. On the hike you will learn the history of this unique stretch outside of Telluride that includes Telluride’s AC power story, the Rio Grande Southern Railroad, details and location of Vance Junction, as well as the story of the Trout Lake Flood.
There will be a lot of information on this tour and it is a perfect way to socially distance, enjoy the great outdoors, and learn about some very influential moments in Telluride history.
Tour will happen rain or shine so please prepare for all types of mountain weather. Bring water and snacks/lunch, as well as appropriate clothing and sun protection, and of course, your mask.
The hike is rated easy to moderate.
There will be no carpooling. Please drive yourself and meet at the parking area adjacent to the old church camp/Ilium Power Plant off Ilium Road (at the intersection of 63L and 63J roads) at 9:00 a.m.
Hike is limited to 15 people max, payment is required to reserve a spot. Call the Museum to reserve.
