Explore the stomping grounds of the Tomboy Bride with one of Telluride’s premiere experts in mining history. Rudy Davison, longtime resident and mining historian, will be leading this combination jeep and hiking trip up to Tomboy Mine. From the mine complex, the tour will embark on foot into the surrounding high country, searching for the area where Harriet Fish Backus, the “Tomboy Bride” lived in the 1910s. The hiking portion of the outing will cover approximately 5 miles of high elevation, primitive trail. It will be steep, there will be scree, and we might get lost. This may be more of an adventure than a stroll.

Please bring a flashlight, sunscreen, extra layers, and a snack or a meal. The tour will be carpooling up to the basin, so if you have a high clearance, 4WD vehicle, please bring it. If you can fit three passengers in your high-clearance, 4WD vehicle, the museum will waive the the cost of the tour.

Please note: this will be a strenuous hike over primitive trails. If you are not in good physical shape, capable of hiking at a sustained pace at elevation exceeding 12,000 feet, you should not join this event.
