Indigenous Peoples Day

FreeThe Telluride Historical Museum has partnered with San Miguel County and the Telluride Institute to produce a celebration for Indigenous People’s Day. This year’s weekend is the biggest ever with a slew of events starting Friday. Here at the Museum, we’ll be hosting two events on October 6th.
3:00 p.m. | Roundtable Discussion with Regina Lopez-Whiteskunk
Regina Lopez-Whiteskunk of Towaoc, former co-chair of the Bears Ears Intertribal Coalition and past Ute Mountain Ute Tribal councilmember, is now a member of the Telluride Institute Board of Trustees. Audience members are encouraged to join in the discussions
6:00 p.m. | Lecture with Glade Hadden of Delta, CO
Retired BLM archaeologist Glade Hadden of Delta at will talk about the Eagle Rockshelter on the Gunnison River near Austin. It’s the oldest excavated site in Colorado and has uncovered artifacts to demonstrate near-continuous indigenous habitation of the Western Slope for 130 centuries.
